Brigadier R.M.D.Rathnayake assumed duties today (22nd) as new Military Spokesman and Director, Directorate of Army Media at a brief ceremony held at the Directorate of Media, Army Headquarters, Colombo.

He placed his signature to the first official document at the auspicious time after he took over the office from Colonel A.K.S.Perera, the outgoing Military Spokesman.

Brigadier Daya Rathnayake, a past pupil of Maliyadeva College, Kurunegala, joined the Sri Lanka Army on 06 February 1980 as an Officer Cadet in the Intake 13 and was commissioned to the First Battalion, Sri Lanka Light Infantry on 18 July 1981. He has held many positions in the Army including some Senior Staff appointments, to his credit.

Before being appointed as the 7th Military Spokesman, and Director, Directorate of Army Media, Army headquarters served as the Brigade Commander, 232 Brigade in Kalkuda
