Both Officers &;amp; Soldiers Receive New Housing Units at Manning Town

Alleviating the problem of housing of Army personnel to a certain extent, Engineer Service Regiment (ESR) soldiers, on the direct intervention and instructions of the Commander of the Army, has managed to complete the construction of 9 blocks with  72 residential units for the use of both officers and other ranks at Manning Town, Narahenpita.

The new housing project in five-storeyed buildings was initiated as a direct contribution to His Excellency, the President’s island-wide one million house construction scheme. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya after taking office took a personal interest in resolving housing issues and made arrangements to accelerate the completion of the project.

The project with all infrastructure facilities such as road networks, telecommunication, water facilities, etc cost the Army a total of Rs 398 million.

The ceremonial opening of the housing project and the inaugural house warming ceremony in accordance with traditions, took place Wednesday (6) morning under the auspices of the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army.       
 
After members of the Maha Sangha invoked religious blessings, the Commander of the Army unveiled a special plaque and entered one of the apartments and saw for himself how the housing unit has been designed and completed. On the same occasion, Directorate of Army Quartering symbolically received the custodianship of the project in the presence of the Chief Guest.

Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on arrival at the venue was received by Major General S. Udumalagala, Quarter Master General. Brigadier H.B.W Kariyawasam, Director, Directorate of Army Quartering and several other senior officers were present on the occasion.
