Blood is Blood Everywhere -163 Army Personnel Volunteer to Donate

163 OFFICERS and Other Ranks in the Army serving 521, 522, 523 and 524 Brigades in the Jaffna peninsula enthusiastically donated blood to Jaffna Teaching Hospital across the peripheral Varani hospital, situated under the 52 Division in Jaffna on Wednesday (7).

Medical officers and officials at Blood Bank, Jaffna Teaching Hospital have projected the need to sustain blood quantity at the hospital to the 52 Division General Officer Commanding (GOC) since many surgeries are now daily performed at this hospital after patients are referred from remote Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu and Pooneryn areas.

The blood donation campaign took place at the peripheral Varani Hospital on the request of the doctors since practical requirements made the project easier. 163 Officers and Other Ranks voluntarily offered their blood for the use of patients in Jaffna hospital during this worthy project. The quantity of blood thus collected would generally be able to serve more than 250 patients, depending on the nature of the requirement, the medical officers have stated. Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna has given his blessings to this project.
