The visually-handicapped widow, P. Ranhami living at Rambakaepuwewa in Kebithigollewa who was living in a dilapidated house with two children, grandson and granddaughter, was accommodated in a totally renovated house, following initiatives taken by the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) on account of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival.
Troops of the 62 Division of the SFHQ-W including officers and other rankers of 17 Sri Lanka National Guard (17 SLNG) as a result of the patronage received from Mr Yoga Perera of Colombo, offered their labour to completely rebuild and renovate the house of Mrs Ranhami since it was not at all fit for human residence in view of its old form and cadjan-thatched nature.
On Thursday (16), Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, Brigade Commanders, 17 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) Commanding Officer, several senior officers and villagers, got together in a brief ceremony and facilitated the re-residence of the widow in the Army-renovated new house.
The patronage of Mr Yoga Perera also enabled the widow to receive pipe-borne drinking water to the house using a water pump and a storing tank.
The project was mooted by the Commander after her plight was brought to his attention.
