Ayurveda Hospital at Kurinchakerny Converted as an ICC

On the instructions of Major General Samantha Silva, General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, the Ayurvedic Hospital at Kurinchakerny in Trincomalee area was converted into an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) to treat COVID- 19 patients in the event of any emergency after an increase of the victims.

Troops of 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) with Health authorities threw their weight behind realization of the project and made it available to authorities on 31 May 2021.

General Shavendra Silva, Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces - East to take prompt action for the conversion of this centre for an ICC within a few days.

This new converted ICC can accommodate 70 patients and is equipped with all medical facilities. Major General Samantha Silva General Officer Commanding - 22 Infantry Division formally handed over to the ICC to health authorities.

Brigadier Shantha Perera, Commander, 223 Brigade closely supervised the troops until the completion of the task.
