Mr. Jonathan Bonnar, Assistant Director of Country Information Section at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade during a visit to the Jaffna peninsula on Saturday (15) had a meeting with Major General Udaya Perera, Commander Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SF-J).
He told the envoy and his team that different groups with vested interests are still instigating separatist ideology by trying to disturb prevailing peace in the peninsula. Explaining the present security situation in Jaffna, he added that some foreign-based elements were motivating their agents here to create mayhem and show Jaffna is not peaceful.
His special attention was drawn to collection of Unexploded Explosive Ordnance (UXOs), scattered in Pallai and Muhamalai areas by gangs for scrap sales and also the use of them for anti-social acts.
