High Commissioner for Australia, Dr Greg French with his Second Secretary, Mr Will Nankcrvis were recently in Jaffna peninsula on a fact-finding mission.\r\n\r\nThe Australian delegation, received by Lieutenant Colonel Keppetiwalana, Colonel General Staff at Palaly airport was later accompanied to the Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) where Major General S.D. Tennakoon, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters (Jaffna) gave a briefing on the present security situation vis a vis other developments, and the progress of the ongoing de-mining programmes in the peninsula.\r\n\r\nVisiting High Commissioner in order to see for himself how the de-mining work was progressing also visited those sites in Puttur area and spoke to a couple of UNDP officials. During his stay in Jaffna, the delegation met with Jaffna District Secretary Mr K. Ganesh, UNICEF officials and Rt. Rev. Dr Thomas Saundranayagam, Jaffna Archbishop and exchanged views on a variety of issues.\r\n
