The 16th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) Mrs Janaki Liyanage assumed office on Friday (3) at her office in the Army Headquarters at Sri Jayawardenapura amid religious blessings, warm greetings and best wishes.
Among participants in the occasion was the new Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage who also joined the lighting of the traditional oil lamp. At the same occasion, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage extended his best wishes to the new office by presenting a bouquet of flowers to the new ASVU President.
Amidst 'Seth Pirith' chanting, aired by members of the Maha Sangha, headed by Ven Wathuravila Sri Sujatha, Chief Incumbent at Sri Naga Vihara in Kotte, the new ASVU President signed a formal document to signify the acceptance of her new office.
The new SVU President on arrival was welcomed by Mrs Shiromala Kodithuwakku, Vice President, ASVU and Chairperson of Sri Lanka Light Infantry - Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU). She afterwards made a brief address to the occasion and requested everyone's support to carry out her future roles.
All regimental SVU Chairpersons took part in the event and sat for a group photograph before partaking of refreshments.

Mrs Janaki Liyanage, took the office as 16th President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) on 03rd June 2022 after Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu assumed duties as the 24th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.
Mrs Janaki Liyanage also serves as the Chairperson of Sri Lanka National Guard Seva Vanitha Unit. She served as the Vice President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit before she assumed the responsibilities as the new President of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit at the Army Headquarters.
She is a past pupil at Science College Matale, studied the Advanced Level in Biology stream and has obtained her graduation from Buddhist and Pali University of Sri Lanka.
In her capacity as the Chairperson of the Sri Lanka National Guard Seva Vanitha Unit, she served with utmost dedication to uplift the living standards of soldiers, disabled war heroes and family members of Sri Lanka National Guard members. She also actively contributed to promote the image of the Seva Vanitha roles while trying to unify all the Seva Vanitha members under the Army Seva Vanitha Unit and working for common goals and interests.
Her motherly care often helps in resolving the grievances and concerns of immediate family members and relatives of soldiers during consultation sessions which were organized for those spouses.
She took exceptional interest to uplift the well-being of the widows as well as family members of disabled Sri Lanka National Guard war heroes whose requirements are unique and varied. She firmly maintained multiple roles and responsibilities of a house wife by addressing binding commitment when the spouse was away on national duty.
This novel approach as the President of the Sri Lanka National Guard Seva Vanitha Units has brought an amazing team spirit amongst all the ladies in Sri Lanka National Guard families.
The Sri Lanka National Guard Seva Vanitha Units have also been at the forefront of providing maximum possible support for completion of partly-built houses, awarding of scholarships, provision of financial grants, medical assistance, etc, during past couple of years. As a result, she is widely admired by many people for her charitable and community work.
She looks forward to serving the spouses and their family members of all Army personnel with unfailing, commitment and dedication, having undertaken the reins of her new office.
