The 4 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (4 SLASC) located at Hingurakgoda inaugurated its new yoghurt production unit, manned under the supervision of the Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) on Monday (April 03) in the presence of Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU as the chief guest.
Mrs Thushari Wanigasekara, Chairperson, SLASC Seva Vanitha Branch (SLASC-SVB) warmly welcomed the day’s chief guest and invited her to unveil a plaque and cut the ribbon before the new production facility was warmed.
Afterwards, all the invitees participated in lighting the traditional oil lamp and closely inspected the new processing plant and learnt about production of Yoghurt for consumption of the troops and sale the excess to outsiders. Towards the end, the host, Chairperson of the SLASC-SVB presented a special memento to Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, ASVU, adding memories to the day.
Impressed with the efforts of those troops, Mrs Janaki Liyanage presented a sum of Rs. 1.4 million for further improvement of the new project through the ASVU funds. All the attendees afterwards sat for a group photograph as memories of the inauguration. The new unit can daily produce a total of 850 Yoghurt cups and troops expect to expand the project to outside markets as well in order to generate funds for welfare projects of Army members.
Senior Officers, Officers, Senior ASVU members and Other Ranks were present at the event.
