The Army Research Analysis Projection & Development Branch (RAP&D Br), mandated to utilize new and latest methods and technology to improve the current technical, tactical and administrative needs for efficiency and effectiveness of the Sri Lanka Army, has succeeded in producing several innovative and indigenous technical and non-technical systems and products as a result of their dedicated team work in the Branch.
The RAP& D Branch on Thursday (19) managed to have an audience with the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the Army HQ and presented their innovative researched products which would provide a catalyst to the fast-changing technological needs in the Army and simultaneously signal a new turning-point.
Artillery Fire Control System - 'Sri Mana', Hand-held Ballistic Calculator, Multiple Integrated Advanced Weapon Simulator System, T-56 Small Arms Firing Simulator, Under Vehicle Scanning System with Anywhere Searcher, National and International award-winning new innovations, etc researched, produced or innovated by Army members in all island-wide formations were kept on display by the team after inviting the Commander of the Army to watch them.
The Commander of the Army highly taken up by those new inventions and innovations emphasized the need for continued expansion of Research & Development initiatives and relevant roles in the Army and appreciated their contribution as exemplified well through those products on display while instructing them concurrently to explore possibilities for mass production of a few of those selected items immediately to meet with requirements of the troops serving in the field and for training institutes.
Major General (Retd) Renuka Rowell, Director General Research and Development Branch, Major General Ruwan de Silva, Military Secretary, Major General Nilantha Hetiarachchi, Chief Signal Officer, Director infantry, Artillery Brigade Commander and Colonel Sudath Ubayasena, overlooking Director, Research and Development Branch and the team were associated with the day's presentation of those products to the Commander of the Army for his observations.
