Corporal N Ramanayake of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps competing in the 400 m race (women’s category) in the Asian Athletics Championship (AAC) - 2023 in Bangkok, Thailand after absence of 23 years won a Gold medal for Sri Lanka on Thursday (13).
Corporal N Ramanayake joins history as the 8th Sri Lankan athlete to win a Gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championship, now underway at the Suphachalasai National Stadium in Bangkok during 12- 16 July and also having won a Gold medal after 23 years.
Corporal N Ramanayake finished the winning time of 52.61 seconds in the women’s event having done the semi-finals in 53.06 seconds before the finals.
Representing the country, 8 Army athletes participated in the tournament.
Similarly, Corporal H.L.N.D Lekamge of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps set a new Sri Lankan record (60.93 m) and won the Bronze medal in the Javelin Throw (women’s category) event.
