Army Woman Rowing Team Wins Silver & Bronze in Asian Rowing Games

Sri Lanka’s medal-winning rowing team who competed in the Asian Rowing Championship, held at Masters Regatta Pattaya in Thailand during 18- 22 December, organized by the Asian Rowing Federation (ARF) in conjunction with the 2019 King’s Cup Elephant Boat Race River Festival arrived in Sri Lanka on Tuesday (24) morning.

Brigadier Nishantha Wadugodapitiya, Chairman, Army Rowing Committee and several other Senior Officers were at the BIA to welcome the team.

The Sri Lanka Army’s women’s rowing team, for which Army woman competitors also contributed won its first-ever Silver medal in the Asian Rowing Championship under the LW4X - Light Women’s Quadruple Scull event category during the Championship.

Similarly, they won the Bronze medal in the Women’s Open Light Weight Quadruple Scull event. More than 20 countries competed in the championship.

The Sri Lankan crew, comprised of Captain Maheshi Liyanage (Three) of Military Intelligence Corps, Lance Corporal Tharika Weerasinghe (Stroke) of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Corporal Kanchana Weerakoon (two) and Corporal Anuradha Soorasena (bow) of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police did well during the tournament. bridgemedia | Sneaker & Lifestyle News
