Army Woman Rowers Shine in National Rowing Meet

The 33rd National Rowing Championship, the premier national rowing event in the country, organized by the Amateur Rowing Association of Sri Lanka (ARASL), kicked off on the waters at Diyawannaoya during 20-22 April.

Sri Lanka Army woman rowers are the defending women’s open champions and holders of the Deva Henry Trophy.

Over 350 athletes from 17 island-wide organizations, representative of armed forces, leading universities, and international schools took part in rowing events.

The rowers vied in over 26 events which ran throughout three consecutive days. The races covered over a distance of 2 km and were conducted in four lanes. Categorized into both men’s and women’s Open, Over-18 and Under-18 singles, pairs, double sculls, coxless and coxed fours, schoolboy scullers and schoolgirl scullers, the event drew a huge gathering of rowing fans.
