A group of Army personnel along with Navy and Air Force men, Disaster Management Centre workers and Colombo Municipal Council Workers were among the firsts to reach Colpetty Liberty roundabout area this morning after a huge tree had fallen on to a Deniyaya - bound SLTB bus causing injuries to more than 20 passengers.
Troops of the 142 Infantry Brigade with other rescue teams assisted the evacuation of the injured from the affected bus and made arrangements to clear the road for resumption of normal traffic along the Duplication road.
The General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division, Major General K.A.W.N.H Bandaranayake USP was there to personally to supervise those emergency tasks.
