Army Troops Give the Jab to Elderly People in Jaffna

Giving a push to the national vaccination project, being carried out by the Army and sister services across the country, Medical Teams and Troops of 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps on Monday (5) started the vaccination of the general public in the Jaffna peninsula, irrespective of Trade Union action of health employees.

Accordingly, new Community Vaccination Centers, set up at 19 places covering the area of Jaffna town, Chankanai, Sandilipay, Velani, Uduvil, Kopay, Maruthankerny, Nallur, Thelippalei and Chavakachcheri began the vaccination of civilians over 60 years of age in the Jaffna peninsula at first. During four days (5-8 July), troops inoculated 24,182 people above 60 years as decided upon by the Epidemiology Unit and health authorities.

This speedy programme is being carried out under the supervision of Major General Priyantha Perera Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna and District Coordinator for COVID - 19 Control and Prevention in Jaffna under the guidance of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID - 19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), headed by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army.
