The long-felt need for a pre-school building at Veheratenna, the village in Vavuniya with newly resettled people, was fulfilled, following initiatives taken by Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) with the support of financial donation, provided by Mr Roshan Mahanama, now a well-known International Cricket Umpire.
The new pre-school building which would attract at least 100 kids from those re-settled families, has been named, 'Piyawara' on a suggestion, made by Major General Boniface Perera, Commander, SFHQ-W.
Mr Mahanama's financial donation of Rs 1.3 m towards the construction and supply of all new desks, chairs and furniture to the pre-school by 'Hemas Outreach' foundation as well as all provision of play area equipment by Ministry of Childcare and Women's Affairs to the adjoining kids' park in the compound, brought the entire project to a completion with active support of the 62 Division troops, attached to the SFHQ-W.
Troops in the 62 Division on the directions of its General Officer Commanding, constructed the entire infrastructure and the building within a few weeks in an impressive manner before it was ceremonially opened on Friday (14) by Hon Minister for Childcare and Women's Affairs Mr Tissa Karalliyadda.
The donor, Mr Roshan Mahanama and his family members, representatives from 'Hemas Outreach' foundation, well-wishers, Brigadier Devindra Perera, General Officer Commanding, 62 Division, officers and a large gathering participated in the opening ceremony.
