In response to the request of Ministry of Defence, under the directions of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army, Sri Lanka Army deployed troops at the government hospitals affected by the island-wide strike of minor staff trade unions in the health sector to ensure the smooth run of the essential health services in the country today (11 Jan).
The troops deployed at Colombo National Hospital, Kandy General Hospital, Kalubowila Teaching Hospital, Karapitiya Teaching Hospital, Mahamodara Teaching Hospital, Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, Kurunegala Teaching Hospital, Polonnaruwa General Hospital, Hambantota General Hospital and the Government Hospitals in Matara, Balangoda, Eheliyagoda, Nawalapitiya, Badulla, Gampola, Monaragala, Meerigama and AnuradhapuraTeaching Hospital under the supervision of the respective Security Forces Commanders.
Accordingly troops deployed in these hospitals and Commander of the Army instructed the Security Force Commanders to stand by for additional troops for further deployment in case of an emergency while ensuring the smooth function of the health services free from inconveniences to the public.
