Army Troops Build One More House to a Former Woman Combatant

The Security Force HQ - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) showing its compassion towards the well-being of one more former woman combatant of the LTTE, now living in abject poverty with her two children and the husband, built a new house for her in Point Pedro area and formally warmed it on Monday (21) during a simple ceremony.

The house construction project, carried out by 16 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops and SFHQ troops was made possible due to financial sponsorship, provided by Dr. Vallipuram Shivakumar, a past student of the Colombo Royal College (1980 Tamil medium batch) through the coordination of Major General (Retd) Ravi Rathnasingham.

The beneficiary, Mrs. Nirojin Yoham, a mother of two children worked as an LTTE woman combatant after she was forced to join the terrorist organization before 2009. After rehabilitation, she was living a hand to mouth life with two children and her husband, a mason who is not very physically fit.

The house-warming ceremony at Point Pedro saw Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna as the Chief Guest deliver keys of the new house to the beneficiary in the presence of the Divisional Secretary for Point Pedro and several Senior Officers, including General Officer Commanding of 55 Division, Brigadier General Staff of Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna, Brigade Commanders of 551 and 553 Brigades, OIC, Point Pedro Police Station, Mr. Wasanthan Balasubbramaniyam who represented Dr. Shivakumar, Senior Officers, state officials, beneficiaries and their family members.

During the same ceremony, dry ration packs and a stock of school accessories and equipment, organized by the SFHQ-J were also awarded to the family as incentives. The former woman combatant worked in Visuamadu area as instructed by LTTE terrorists before she surrendered and underwent rehabilitation.
