Army Troops in Batticaloa Unearth 120 mm Mortar Launcher

EAST: AS MORE and more LTTE items emerge from the WANNI jungles, troops serving in the east are continuing their search operations in the areas where LTTE terrorists earlier dominated.

Army troops on recent most search and clear operation in the general area of ANGODAVILLU in BATTICALOA were able to recover one 120 mm mortar launcher sans sight, one aiming picket and one toolkit. The weapon and accessories found on Friday (10) had been wrapped in polythene and buried under soil.
 
Another search operation conducted by the troops in KANCHIKUDICHCHIARU area in AMPARA on Friday (10) found one sniper telescope, two hundred and twenty-five rounds of M-16 ammunition, one M-16 magazine, one Multi Purpose Machine Gun link, three LTTE combat kits, two T-56 weapons, seven T-56 magazines, one hundred and seventy rounds of T-56 ammunition, one Improvised Explosive Device (IED), one claymore stand, one claymore mine, seven claymore chargers, one hundred and forty anti personnel mines, one hundred and thirty-nine anti personnel mine fuses, twenty-five cyanide capsules, one pouch and six 82 mm mortar fuses.
 
Meanwhile 200 kg of C-4 explosive, two thousand two hundred fifty rounds of 9 mm ammunition, one hundred and fifty shotgun cartridges and two suicide kits were found from AWADDIWELI area in BATTICALOA the same day. The recovery was made on information received by the VAVUNIYA Police.
