Army Tattoo Continues Drawing Massive Crowds

THE FOURTH day of the Army Tattoo on Tuesday (20) witnessed a packed crowd as the mega spectacle is reaching its closure by Friday (23) evening. Tuesday’s ceremonial inauguration was graced by Commander of Sri Lanka Air Force Air Chief Marshal Roshan Goonatilake as  Chief Guest on the invitation of Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya.

Air Force commander was received by the Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on arrival at the venue. The visiting Air Force Commander hoisted the National Flag and inaugurated the fourth day of the year’s most adventurous show.

Women’s display in the Tattoo with most attractive colourful dresses turned out to be one of the most fascinating events as hundreds of women soldiers lined up to show their prowess. Equally outstanding were the stunt jumps, presented by Army troops and their trained dogs. The drill display was another feat that stole the attention of all the spectators as rounds of applause burst.

Enthusiasm of the audience to see the heroic para jumps of Army Commandoes was shattered due to bad and cloudy weather conditions that prevailed. Para troopers on board the helicopter hovered over the stadium while trying to find the slightest possibility for them to be airborne, but static dark clouds made them postpone the jump since such moves could be life-threatening.

This mega show culminates on Friday (23) bringing the series of Army 60th Anniversary celebratory events to a close.
