More than 125 Army personnel, 30 hotel employees, 68 Hikkaduwa Divisional Secretariat employees, 8 Policemen and groups of volunteers on Thursday (19) enthusiastically contributed to a cleaning project along Narigama, Hikkaduwa beach patch after a combined project to this effect was launched by both 581 Brigade Headquarters and the Marine Environment Protection Authority.

The beach, badly polluted due to human behaviour and dumping of garbage remained an eye-sore to nature-lovers when the 581 Brigade Headquarters under the guidelines given by Major General Jayantha Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding 58 Division took the initiative in this regard in close cooperation with Marine Environment Protection Authority.

Major General Mahinda Mudalige, Commander, Security Forces - West attended the inaugural occasion of the ‘Shramadana’ project and spoke to the attendees before the day’s programme got underway.

The 6 km-long beach patch between Hikkaduwa to Dodanduwa was completely cleaned up in the project. Refreshments were served by the Association of Hikkaduwa Hoteliers with the help of Hikka Trans Hotel, Avenra Beach Hotel and Levangra Hotel, situated along the beach patch. url clone | Nike Shoes
