Sri Lanka Army Taekwondo players for the first time in the Army history during the recent 6th Malaysian Open Taekwondo Championship bagged one Gold Medal, one Silver Medal and one Bronze Medal, bringing honour to the organization and the country.
Private H.P.M.C.T. Senaratne (Middle weight category), Sergeant H.M.A. Karunaratne (Open Poomse category) and Private A.P.D. Madhusanka (Light weight category) won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively at this international event held between 15 - 18 July.
Over1500 competitors, representing 27 sports clubs of 15 countries vied for medals during this tournament.
Meanwhile, one more group of Army Taekwondo players in the Army pool were away last week to take part in the International Defence Services Taekwondo Tournament, held in Brazil.
In the meantime, with the objective of participating in the forthcoming Indian Open Taekwondo Championship, Army Taekwondo players continue their daily practice sessions in Jaffna under the supervision of Brigadier B.C.J.A.F. Rodrigo, Chairman, Army Taekwondo Committee.
In addition, Army Taekwondo players have been conducting Taekwondo classes for Jaffna youth and school children, free of charge in order to improve sports standards in Jaffna.
