Army Taekwondo Players Carry Championship in 12th DSG

The awarding ceremony of Taekwondo Championship in the 12th Defence Services Games (DSG) took place at Panagoda Army Indoor gymnasium on Thursday (16 March) where Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Chairman, Army Sports Committee and Chief of Staff graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Taekwondo competitions in the tournament were held from 14 to 16 March at Panagoda Army Indoor gymnasium with 47 men and 37 women of the tri forces participating.

Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, Adjutant General and Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Taekwondo Committee welcomed Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Chairman, Army Sport Committee and Chief of Staff on his arrival to the gymnasium.

After the welcome speech, all distinguished guests witnessed several demonstrations, staged by players in the Sri Lanka Army Taekwondo team.

Afterwards, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Chief of Staff awarded the trophies and certificates to the winners, together with Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces-West and Major General Chandana Wicramasinghe, Adjutant General and Chairman, Army Taekwondo Committee.

Sri Lanka Army Men’s Taekwondo team secured the Championship in the Men’s category and the women’s Taekwondo team of the Air Force won the Championship in the Women’s category.

Leading Air Craftman D.T.L Thilakarathna of the Air Force (Best Male Player) and Lance Corporal Y.K.M Madushani of the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (Best Female Player) were awarded during the brief ceremony.

At the end of the awarding ceremony, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe presented a memento to Major General Channa Weerasuriya as a token of appreciation.

Master Ki Su Lee, Head of the Technical Committee of Sri Lanka Taekwondo Federation, Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks attended the awarding ceremony.

12th Defence Service Taekwondo Championship was organized by the Sri Lanka Army Takewondo Committee on the directions of Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, Adjutant General and Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Taekwondo Committee.
