A TAEKWONDO show, presented by Army personnel towards the culmination of the distribution of prizes and trophies for winners of the Jaffna Marathon race in Jaffna" gave a novice experience to the spectators. The show simultaneously initiated the start of Taekwondo training workshops, intended for promotion of the sport among school children in the peninsula under close supervision of Colonel B.C.J.F Rodrigo.
As the first stage" the Taekwondo classes were opened at Duraiappa Stadium on 10th March 2010 with the participation of about 100 youth and students from Jaffna. These classes is to be held on every Thursday and Sunday at the Stadium. Members of Sri Lanka Army Taekwondo team would serve as instructors in those classes. The training programme is the brainchild of Major General Mahinda Haturusinghe" Commander Security Forces" Jaffna.
