Army Swimmers Carry Championships Again

Sri Lanka Army swimmers (both male and female) beating a total of 61 swimmers of the Navy, Air Force, Police, Civil Sports Clubs and Schools secured male and female championships in the 6-mile Sea Swimming Championship Tournament that got underway beginning from Wellawatta Kinross Sports Club area on Sunday (24) morning.

20 male swimmers and 8 females of the Army joined the 54th 6-mile tournament that has been organized by the Wellawatta Kinross Aquatic Sports Club which covered a distance of 6 miles from Wellawatta to Mount Lavinia and back. They all swam southward in parallel to the beach to claim the Championship in both male and female categories.

Swimmers in the Sri Lanka Army Aquatic Sports Association, chaired by Major General H.G.I Vidyananda a few days ago in a similar manner won the Championships (male and female) in the 2-mile open swimming Championship held at Balapitiya beach.

The swimming meet at Wellawatta began at 7.30 am and completed the swim within a matter of 4 ½ hours in the presence of a large gathering of fans in aquatic sports.

However, overall championships were won by Army swimmers as follows;

Lance Corporal W. Wimal Kumara of 3 Sri Lanka Service Corps (2nd place in the overall championship)

Private W.M.B.L. Abeyrathna 2 Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (3rd place in the overall championship).

Corporal P.K Jayathilake of 4 Sri Lanka Women's Corps (3rd place at the women’s championship).Sports Shoes | Sneakers
