Army Sprinter Promoted &;amp; Lauded Over Her Achievement in Asian Marathon Championship

Lance Corporal N.G Rajasekara of 3 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) who clocked a record 2 hour and 40 minutes duration to secure the 5th place in the recent 15th Asian Marathon Championship - Hong Kong was lauded and promoted to the rank of Corporal by the Commander of the Army on Friday (5) after inviting her to his office at the Army Headquarters.

The meeting, facilitated by Directorate of Sports in the Army, saw Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army, extend his best wishes on her achievement in the 15th Asian Marathon Championship - Hong Kong, creating a new Sri Lanka record with 2 hour and 40 minutes and 7 seconds in January, this year to secure the 5th place.

Lieutenant General Crishanthe De Silva, gifted a set of brand new shoes and promoted her to the rank of Corporal while simultaneously assuring her of all possible support for future assignments. She has been qualified to represent Olympics in 2016.

Major General B.A. Perera, Director General General Staff, Major General Amal Karunasekara, Chairman, Army Athletic Committee and Brigadier Athula Galagamage, Director Army Sports were present during the meeting with the Commander.
