An Army soldier of the Garrison Engineers’ station at the 61 Infantry Division HQ in Boossa, swiftly acted and caught a thief who snatched a gold necklace from a woman passenger while she was boarding the train at Boossa railway station on Tuesday (18) afternoon.
Private R G D Kumara, attached to the 61 Infantry Division HQ in Boosa was at the railway station when the incident occurred while the train was about to move ahead after its stop at the railway station.
The thief after snatching the necklace of 2 sovereigns took to his feet and ran away along the railway track while the victim was screaming for help, being unable to board the train after the ordeal.
Private R G D Kumara chased the thief and managed to apprehend him with the necklace. After a few minutes, the thief with the necklace was handed over to the policemen at Rathgama Police station who showed up at the scene.
