Army Snipers Contribute Effectively

WANNI: SNIPERS OF THE TROOPS are making a considerable contribution to the fight against terrorism in WANNI as evidenced in PERIYAVALAYANKADDUKULAM, MALIKAITTIDAL, VEDDAYAMURIPPU and PARAYAKULAM area throughout Thursday (27).

At about 12.00 noon on Thursday (27) troops snipped a terrorist movement in PERIYAVALAYANKADDUKULAM after they found that the terrorists were moving towards the north on a secret mission. The attack killed one terrorist whose dead body was later recovered by the troops. Minutes after this firing, another group of terrorists reappeared from the same area but the troops knocked them off killing at least four of them. Troops found one Dog Tag (No: A0446) from a dead body of a terrorist. Troops also later on saw the fallen dead bodies lying inside shrubs.

Meanwhile, explosion of an LTTE anti personnel mine in SINNAPANTRICHURICHCHAN area injured one soldier who was serving the area on Thursday (27). One more soldier on duty in KIRICHCHUDANKULAM was wounded following explosion of an anti personnel mine.

In MALIKAITTIDAL troops snipped one terrorist who was found to be female at about 4.30 p.m. on Thursday (27). Around the same time one more terrorist was felled in VEDDAYAMURIPPU area by the troops Thursday (27) evening. Troops clearing in the area came across thirty one anti personnel mine, one RPG bomb, one pressure mine, one hand grenade and one booby trap from PALLAIKKULI and MALIKAITTIDAL areas on Thursday (27). In PARAYAKULAM troops killed at least six terrorists and destroyed two of their bunkers during Thursday (27) when the terrorists tried to open fire on marching troops.
