Another annual event of National Rifle Shooting Championship Competition saw its culmination bringing victory to the Sri Lanka Army on 21st July 2003 at the electronic firing range of Panagoda Army Cantonment.
The competition which started on 12th July 2003 lasted for eight days among veteran shooters, both male and female, from all three forces, Police and some shooting clubs in the island. The competition organized by the National Rifle Association (NRA) to the standards of International Sports Shooting Federation (Olympic Shootings) was held in Panagoda Army electronic range and Navy electronic range in Welisara.
Staff Sergeant U.N.D. Dharmasiri and Warrant Officer I P.I. Ramanayaka, both representing the Army, brought honour to the Army by winning awards for the best overall performers among male and female shooters respectively.
Mr. Johnston Fernando, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports gave away the prizes to the winners in individual and group events. Army Chief of Staff Major General L.C.R.Goonawardene RSP USP ndc IG, President -National Rifle Association Colonel A.M.A.Chandrasiri RSP USP General Secretary of the National Rifle Association and also the Army Coach Lieutenant Colonel Pasan Kularathna also attended.
