Mr. Josef Pfanner, 76 years old tourist from Germany, went missing at Koslanda area during evening hours on Wednesday (14 February 2024) and the management of Melheim Resort, Haputale requested assistance of the Army in order to rescue their missing German guest who had left the resort for jogging and sightseeing.
Army troops swiftly responded under the necessary instructions of Major General S.R.B. Aluvihare RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces – Central, to locate the missing tourist and ensure his safety. Accordingly, a quick reaction rider team inclusive of two Officers and fourteen Other Ranks made their way to rescue the tourist amidst owl light and adverse weather conditions.
In the early morning of the next day, troops were able to locate the tourist and return to his resort safely. The German national highly appreciated the Army’s commitment and paid gratitude to the troops.
