ARMY REJECTS ALLEGATIONS ON COMMANDER'S MOVE INTO OFFICIAL RESIDENCE

THOUGH unofficial reports claimed that retired General Sarath Fonseka has by 2nd January 2010 allegedly vacated the official quarters, meant for the use of incumbent Commander of the Army, no official intimation to that effect, as stipulated in the Supreme Court judgment on the issue, has been conveyed either to Court, or Attorney General or Commissioner of Elections or Sri Lanka Army Headquarters as of today (4).

Once legal advice in this regard is received, this official residential quarters is to be accepted upon completion of proper receipt/ hand-over procedures, since the official residence of the Commander of the Army, for the first time in the history of the Army, has been now found used for political work. Once the official residence is restored to the status of the residential quarters as before, the incumbent Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya intends to move into the quarters for residence. Hence, there doesn’t exist any need for the Commander of the Army to purposely delay his change of residence until the Presidential Election is over as alleged in some false reports. (Ends)
