Army Recruit Wins Gold in Weightlifting

Sri Lanka Army’s Recruit Y.D.I Kumara of 2 Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps (2 SLAGSC) won Gold (56 kg) in the Zhen - Ao Commonwealth Weightlifting Junior Championships, held in Penang, Malaysia during October 23 - 30.

Recruit Kumara as a member of the National Weightlifting Team competed in the Junior Tournament and won the Gold medal, bringing credit to the Army and the country.

Several other Sri Lankan participants also won medals in the tournament. The Gold medalist, Recruit Kumara was received at the airport by several senior officers of the Directorate of Sports and Weightlifting Sports Committee of the Army.
