ARMY troops in the east now assisting civil administrative authorities to complete re-settlement of IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons), in addition to their ongoing search and clear operations, hand in hand with the government’s development programme, started an agricultural farm in Kandakadu area recently.
This fertile block of land with a large acreage produced varieties of agricultural and dairy products to the country in the past. However, with the rise of LTTE atrocities in the area the government-run farm was neglected and finally abandoned.
When the East reached normalcy after elimination of the LTTE by the Security Forces, 3rd Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps based in Batticaloa, on instructions of the Commander Security Forces Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) Major General Srinath Rajapakse, took steps to reclaim the land and re-cultivate it.
A small function was organized to mark the re-launch of cultivation in this agricultural farm on Thursday (08) at Kandakadu with participation of General Officer Commanding 23 Division Brigadier R.M. Nugera and senior officers of the area.
