Army to Plant 100,000 Coconut Saplings in All Army Camps

The Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock of the Sri Lanka Army, giving maximum possible push to the green cultivation project of the government has initiated a project to produce some 100,000 coconut saplings covering all island-wide Army Camps in cooperation with the Coconut Cultivation Board of Sri Lanka to be in line with the Commander's ' Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak' project.

To reach the desired target, a special nursery for coconut saplings was inaugurated inside the Army-managed farm at Kandakadu on Thursday (16) with the intention of giving a boost to the entire project. The inauguration saw some 10,000 coconut saplings were planted in the Coconut Plant Nursery at Kandakadu during this brief inaugural ceremony.

The Chairperson of the Coconut Cultivation Board of Sri Lanka, Mrs A.V.K Madhawee Herath and Director of the Army Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock Brigadier A.K Rajapaksha, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks joined the inaugural planting.
