Army Pistol Shooters Win Overall Championship Trophy in National Rifle Association Tournament

Sri Lanka Army Pistol shooters beating veterans in 14 sports shooting clubs, including Navy, Air Force, Civil and the Police during the 4-day long National Rifle Association (NRA) open firing meet won 8 Gold medals, 2 Silver medals and 4 Bronze medals to carry away the overall Championship Trophy.

The male and female champions of the tournament in each stage, Sunday (28) evening performed live demonstrations under different categories at the Commando Regiment Pistol Firing Range in Ganemulla.

The day’s Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Chrisanthe De Silva, Commander of the Army on arrival at the Commando Regimental Headquarters, was accorded a drive past Guard Turnout  before the welcome address by the Chairman, National Rifle Association (NRA) Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander Security Forces Headquarters-West (SFHQ-West) was delivered.

By winning the International Practical Shooting Confederation (IPSC) overall Championship -2015 during (25-28) four-day long Championship Tournament, held at the Commando Regiment Pistol Firing Range in Gannemulla, the Army pistol firers made a record victory.

The Chief Guest afterwards distributed awards to the winners.

Lieutenant Colonel Waruna Fernando, Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC), Secretary to the NRA made the vote of thanks before the programme reached the end.

The Commander of the Army and all senior officers, Civil Club Members, Shooters sat for a group photograph and enjoyed refreshments.

Several senior officers including Brigadier N.D.S.P Niwunhella, Chairman, Army Shooting Committee were present.
