Army PATS Team in Pakistan Becomes First Runner Up

Sri Lanka Army’s Infantry team of 2 Officers and 7 Other Ranks, belonging to the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), Gemunu Watch (GW) and Gajaba Regiment (GR) competing with Turkey, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and South Africa won the Runner Up slot with a Silver medal at the International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) competition, held in Kharian, Pakistan during 1-5 March.

The PATS, an annual competition that calls for highest standards of physical fitness, tactical prowess and soldierly attributes is also intended to share experience in the field of minor tactics and fieldcraft in overall Counter-Terrorism Scenario while strengthening bonds of friendship and joint training among participating countries.

Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, congratulated the team on hearing their achievement. Those infantrymen prior to departure underwent intitial training in Minneriya and the Commando Regiment Training School at Kudaoya.

Sri Lanka’s PATS team including a Team Manager, Team Leader, Team Second-in-Command, Team Non-Commissioned Officer, Wireless Operator, two Riflemen and two more members were included in the PATS in 28 field events within a challenging time-frame of 72 hours.Major General Manoj Mudannayake, Director General Infantry and Deputy Director General Infantry, Major General DeshapriyaGunawardena supervised the whole arrangement of their visit, prior to the departure.

Those participants underwent Kit Inspection, Signal Communication Test, Recognition of Various Weapons and Combat Equipment, Verbal Orders for Infiltration Operation, Infiltration Operation Night Navigation, Observation and Hearing, Dealing with Strangers, Occupation of Hide Out and Related Drills Techniques, Selection Marking of Landing Zone and Helicopter Landing Drills, Artillery Target Grid Procedure Indication of Target, Dog Evasion, Prisoner of War Handling, Quick Battle Orders for Close Target Reconnaissance Exfiltration, Close Target Reconnaissance Drill, Ambush Anti Ambush Drills, Dealing with Helicopter Crash First Aid, Mine Field Clearance Drills, Preparation of Target Reconnaissance Report, Rope Rappelling, Exfiltration Operation Navigation, Speed March, Surprise Tests, Firing, Nuclear Biological Chemical Defence (NBCD), Assault Techniques, Crossing of Water Gap Obstacle Crossing and Terminal Kit Inspection before they left for Pakistan.
