Grade 5 scholarship candidates living in 52 Division area in Varani, Jaffna had the rare chance of attending a preparatory seminar for the forthcoming examination, following initiatives taken by the 52 Division Headquarters.
185 children with twelve teachers of eight schools in the area attended the 4 hour long seminar, conducted by Mr Anandan Sameshan, a primary teacher at St John’s Maha Vidyalaya. All the attendees were offered books, pencils and crayon colour sticks as incentives, in addition to the refreshments, sponsored by Mr Selvendran, a lawyer by profession.
SLBC Jaffna branch provided the attendees with necessary writing materials while Jaffna based Tamilnathan newspaper supported the project by printing model question papers for the seminar.
The inauguration of the seminar was attended by Mr Nandakumar, Vadamarachchi Zonal Director of Education, Mr S. Hiniduma, Jaffna SLBC, Mr Yoganathan, Principal, Thunpalai Shivaprakashan Vidyalaya, Lieutenant Colonel D.M.R.J Bandara, 16 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel P.S Buddhadasa, Commanding Officer, 19 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and several invitees.
