Army Officer & Donors Provide Incentives to Veherapelessa Students

Students numbering 113 learning at the remote Veherapelessa Junior School in one corner of the Hambantota District recently received school accessories free of charge as incentives, owing to the generosity, extended by a group of philanthropists, including Major General A.V Rupasinghe, Director Supply and Transport of the Army and his spouse.

Veherapelessa Junior School, situated in the Tissamaharama Divisional Secretariat area, served by the 12 Division Headquarters of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) has been picked by the Civil Affairs Officer of the 12 Division Headquarters for this purpose, considering the hardships, being experienced by those children.

The stock of accessories, valued at about Rs 75,000/= was donated to the principal and students in the school during a simple ceremony on 28 January in the presence of Major General Rupasinghe, Mrs Rupasinghe and three other family friends of Mrs Rupasinghe who also generously contributed to the project.

Students overjoyed at the gesture entertained the donors by presenting their artistic skills before receiving school accessories. At the same time, one teacher in a brief address to the occasion thanked the gesture on behalf of the principal and the tutorial staff.

Colonel B.P Caldera, Colonel Admin and Quartering, several other officers and other rankers were present at the occasion.
