Army Medical Corps Regimental Centre Warms its New Officers’ Mess

The new Officers’ Mess building complex of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) Regimental Headquarters at Werahera was formally warmed this morning (9) and vested in the SLAMC Officers during a simple ceremony, graced by General G.D.H. Kamal Gunaratne (Retd) WWV RWP RSP USP ndc psc MPhil, Secretary to Ministry of Defence, as the Chief Guest, together with General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army.

This new two-storied Officers’ Mess complex that consists of all amenities, fulfills a longstanding requirement of the SLAMC Regimental Centre.

The ceremony got to a start with the arrival of the day’s Chief Guest who was honoured in a formal drive-past Guard Turnout, in which he was saluted at the main entrance to the Regimental Headquarters.

Soon after, Brigadier P.A.C. Fernando, officiating Director General Army Health Services and Colonel Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC), together with Brigadier T.M. Hettiarachchi, SLAMC Centre Commandant warmly received the guests, and they were ushered to the location before the auspicious moment for inauguration dawned.

Next, the Chief Guest unveiled a plaque to mark the formal opening. As the auspicious second struck, the Secretary Defence warmed the new Mess Hall by cutting a symbolic ribbon. The day’s Chief Guest, together with the Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army afterwards walked in and had a close look at the spacious complex. The inauguration came to an end with the award of a memento to the Chief Guest by the SLAMC Colonel Commandant as a token of appreciation and gratitude.

Major General T.J. Kodituwakku RWP RSP ndu, Chief of Staff, Major General C.D. Weerasooriya RWP RSP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General D.G.S. Senarath Yapa RWP RSP ndc, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and several Senior Officers participated in the event.
