Army Medalists in Lusofonia Games Awarded Cash Incentives

Army athletes who brought Gold, Silver and Bronze medals home after competing in the recent Lusofonia Games in Goa, India were lauded and rewarded with cash gifts, following instructions of the Commander of the Army during a special event at Adjutant General’s office on Wednesday (26) at Army Headquarters.     

The event, headed by Major General Crishantha De Silva, Chief of Staff, saw athletes, Warrant Officer - II P.H Chamal, Sergeant K.M.N.G Gunathilake, Lance Corporal D.M.D.E.U Fernando, Lance Bombardier R.D.U.S Surendra, Lance Corporal E.W.U Rathnakumara, Lance Corporal    H.K.M Herath, Private B.R.A Hasaranga, Private A.L.M Ashroff and Private T.G.N.D Wickramasinghe and Lance Corporal H.M.P Manuranga (Wushu) and Sergeant P.M.A.G Sandamali, Lance Corporal    H.P.M.C.T Senarathna and Lance Corporal T.B.R.A Bandara (Taekwondo), receive cash gifts, together with their coaches.

Major General De Silva awarding Rs 30,000/= each to Gold medalist, Rs 25,000/= each to Silver medalist and Rs 20,000/= each to Bronze medalist, assured the Army’s continued support for promotion of their skills further.

On the same occasion, cash gifts of Rs 20,000/=, Rs 15,000/= and Rs 10,000/= were awarded to coaches of those medalists for training them to secure Gold, Silver and Bronze medals respectively.  

Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, taking a personal interest in those doing honours to the Army, implemented the project for recognition of Army talents in different fields by awarding incentives and appreciating their contribution.
