Army Male Swimmers Clinch Championship in 12th DSG

Sri Lanka Army swimmers competing in the 12th Defence Services Games (DSG) Swimming Championship - 2023 bagged 18 Gold medals out of 19 events, to emerge as champions (Men’s category), displaying excellent athletic prowess and sportsmanship.

Held at the Navy swimming pool complex in Welisara during 5 - 6 June, the swimming event was competed by a large number of swimmers of the tri-services including male and female swimmers.

In the men’s category, Army swimmers secured 18 Gold medals out of 19 events to claim the overall championship. Swimmers of the Navy and the Air Force were respectively placed as runners-up in the finals.

Similarly, Army women swimmers won 4 Gold medals, 1 Silver and 6 Bronze medals to emerge as the 2nd runner-up in the finals. Accordingly, both men and women swimmers of the Army clinched 22 Gold medals in the competition.

In the overall championship (Men’s category), Army swimmers bagged 18 Gold, 14 Silver and 5 Bronze medals to qualify for the championship while the Navy won 01 Gold, 05 Silver and 11 Bronze Medals. Air Force swimmers meanwhile emerged as the second runner-up with 01 Silver and 02 Bronze medals.

Lance Corporal B.D Shehan of the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers was adjudged the Best Swimmer in the entire competition.

Major General S.U.M.N Manage WWV RWP RSP psc, Chairman, Army Aquatic Sports Committee offered necessary guidelines and directions to the Army competitors.

Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, Vice Chairman of the Army Aquatic Sports Committee witnessed the chain of events and participated in the certificate-awarding ceremony.

The championship trophy is to be presented at the end of the entire DSG event.
