An initiative, launched by the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni with sponsorship provided by the head office branch of the Commercial Bank resulted in inauguration of a well-equipped IT laboratory for the benefit of students at remote Paranagamawewa Vidyalaya in the Welioya Educational Zone in Mullaittivu.
The 62 Division troops taking the lead in this regard with skilled manpower offered by 14 (V) Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of the 621 Brigade undertook the task of building this IT laboratory with funds made available by the Commercial Bank after this acute need was projected to them by troops.
On Monday (5), the Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Dhammika Jayasinghe as the Chief Guest, together with the Deputy General Superintendant of Commercial Bank, Mr Hasrath Munasinghe, Project Coordinator, Mr Mahesh Rathnayake, Executive Officer, Mr Gayan Wickramarathne, Director of Education Mullaittivu District, General Officer Commanding, 62 Infantry Division, Brigadier M.K.S Silva, Commander, 621 Brigade, Commanding Officer of the 14 (V) SLLI, Chief Civil Affairs Officer, Civil Affairs Officers at the SFHQ-Wanni and the 62 Infantry Division, vested the new IT laboratory in the students during a simple ceremony.
Commercial Bank executives and officials thanked the Army for provision of its skilled manpower, architectural, engineering and technical support for success of the project.
Principal, teachers, parents and students were full of appreciation and praise of Army initiatives in this regard since the absence of IT facilities in this school has posed a setback to their higher studies for a long time.
