Army Initiative Gets Direct Bus Service Between Pooneryn &;amp; Colombo


Following Army initiatives, the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) on Sunday (2), commenced a direct bus service from Pooneryn to Colombo and back on A- 32 main road for the benefit of commuters who travel to Colombo and back on various commercial and other needs on a daily basis.
 
According to the time table, the bus from Pooneryn starts every evening at 5.00 p.m and reaches Colombo by 2.30 a.m. in the following morning. The return journey from Colombo begins at 7.00 in the morning everyday and reaches Pooneryn by 3.00 p.m. across Ulankulam, Vedithalathivu, Settikulama, Medawachchiya, Anuradhapura, Dambulla and Kurunegala.
 
The one way busfare is Rs.600/=. The initiative, taken by the General Officer Commanding, 66 Division after several rounds of discussions with Sri Lanka Transport Board authorities, is expected to benefit many civilians who would be willing to engage in business between Colombo and Pooneryn.
 
A simple ceremony, attended by SLTB and Army Officers inaugurated the service on Sunday (2).
 
Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi has given his blessings to the project.
