A mega community project to educate both Army personnel as well as civilians on the question of ‘Attempted Suicides & Prevention of Suicides’ got underway for three days (28-30 October) at Diyatalawa ‘Torch’ cinema hall of the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa Divisional Secretariat, Bandarawela Municipal Council and Bandarawela Divisional Secretariat.
Lieutenant Colonel W.M.R.P Wijesundara, Civil Affairs Coordinator at the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-Cen) supervised the entire project on the instructions of Major General Lakisiri Waduge, Commander, Security Forces - Central after findings confirmed the high incidence of suicides in those respective areas.
Women, pre-school teachers, parents, Army personnel serving different formations joined those programmes with coordination of Army troops.
