Army-improvised Tangalle Hospital Ward Ready to Receive COVID-19 Infectees

Troops of 23 Gajaba Regiment, 3 Sri Lanka National guard and Corps of Engineer Services of the 112 Brigade took steps to convert one ward at Tangalle Base Hospital to serve as an Intermediate Care Centre (ICC) in the event of any surge in the number of COVID-19 infected ones in the region. The ICC is now in operation from Thursday (13) onwards.

The ICC was made a reality with the support of the Health officials and workers at Tangalle Hospital in coordination with the Commander, Security Forces - Central in order to enable the accommodation of COVID patients in an emergency. Troops completed the project as per guidelines given by health authorities and Senior Officers.

This ICC conversion process started on the directions of the Head, NOCPCO, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army with the cooperation of the Major General Prasanna Ranawaka, General Officer Commanding, 12 Division & Brigadier Janaka Pallekumbura, Commander 112 Brigade.
