Army Holds First Ever Beach Kabaddi Tournament in Its History

A Beach Kabaddi tournament was held for the first time in the history of Sri Lanka Army with participation of 18 Regiments and 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corp (SLAWC) Battalions at the headquarters, 4th (Volunteer) Corps of Engineer Services, Panadura Coast last weekend (19-20).

The objective of this tournament was to select a team for the forthcoming South Asian Beach Sports Festival scheduled to be held in September 2011.

Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) won the championship beating Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) after a closely competed final. Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police emerged third. In the women’s championship, 4 SLAWC emerged Champions while 3 SLAWC and 5 SLAWC finished first and second runner-up respectively.

The Chief Guest of the event Major General E. M. M. Ambanpola and Brigadier D. C. S. Wanniarachchi accompanied by other senior officers gave away trophies and medals for the winners.
