Army grabs it all in firing events

Firing teams representative of the Sri Lanka Army claimed victory in all major events at the recently ended National Pistol Firing Competition, organized by the National Rifle Association for the 12th consecutive time at Ganemulla Commando Regimental Centre firing range.

Trophies for Championship in Open, Standard and Production went to Army marksmen along with all other individual wins for the same events. The Army was the only organization that secured all three trophies one and the same time during the history of firing tournaments.

Lieutenant Colonel Ritigalapola, Sergeant Podi Mahathmaya and Corporal Padmasiri emerged Champions in Open, Standard and Production firing events respectively whilst Colonel K.W. Edema, Major A.P. Pandithage and Major D. Wijewickrama became Champions in the same events, held for Range Officers.

The first place in Open events for women was secured by Corporal Manjula Kumuduni of the Air Force. As anticipated, the team championship also went to the Air Force.

Inspector of Police Greshan Walter and Yoshitha Rajapakse, Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapakse's son, were adjudged the Champions in Senior and Junior sections respectively.

Reeza Odaya, Chandima Sugathapala and Mikshan Hettiarachchi were awarded the trophies for Best Marksman in Civil category section in their Open, Standard and Production events.
