Army Gives Support to Kovil Festival

19 Battalion Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) troops serving 553 Brigade of 55 Division Headquarters extended their fullest support for conduct of the one-week (June 17 - 24) long annual festival at Unawakkei Kannaki Amman (Mulliyan Kovil) Hindu temple in Vettalakerni, Jaffna.

Troops prior to the festival cleaned up the temple premises and its surroundings with the use of Army heavy machinery since surrounding areas were inundated with heaps of garbage and debris. Troops also actively provided drinking water utensils and tents, etc for the devotees attending these Poojas in the temple.

Appreciative of the lavish cooperation of the troops for smooth conduct of the whole festival, Hindu priests on the final day (June 24) of the festival invited the troops to receive blessings during a special Pooja.

Brigadier B.H.M.A Wijesinghe, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division, 553 Brigade Commander, 19 Battalion SLNG Commanding Officer, Officers, Civil Coordinating Officers, other ranks and a large gathering of civilians in the area joined the special Pooja.
