Army Forms Separate 25 SRTs for Emergency Roles During Disasters

In the event of any future national disasters or catastrophes in the country, the Sri Lanka Army, is well geared to rapidly deploy separate professionally trained 25 Search and Rescue Teams (SRT) at a short notice.

A successful two-day training workshop, conducted with the assistance of the government’s Disaster Management Centre, qualified leaders in those 25 SRTs to meet with requirements of any natural disaster. Their training enables them to train their deputies and subordinates in respective teams, one for each district. 

Army Directorate of Operations on the directives given by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya has organized the recent workshop. The training would help the Disaster Management Centre to further broaden their scope of relief and rescue work in accordance with world-wide practices and emergency modules.

At the end of the training, Major General K. Jagath Alwis, Director General General Staff awarded certificates to all the participants in the training workshop during a simple ceremony.
