Army Footballers in DSG Retain Their Championship

The finale of football championship in the Defence Services Games (DSG) - 2023 (Men’s) that thrilled Tri Service football fans at the Race Course Stadium on Monday (22) enabled Army footballers to make an impressive comeback in the last ten minutes of the game scoring two crucial goals.

Army footballers defeated the Navy and successfully defended their title although both teams played with intensity and enthusiasm. The Army’s Corporal L.C.S.K Mendis of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps and Lance Corporal M.A.A Rahuman of Sri Lanka National Guard emerged as the heroes for the Army.

The finale scoreboard stood at 02 - 01 goals, giving the championship to the Army players. With the hard-fought win, the Army was able to retain their title as champions of the DSG men’s football.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka Navy Women’s Football team achieved the championship leaving the Runners-up trophy for Army Women’s team.

Major General A.C.A De Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, the Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police, Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director, Directorate of Sports, Brigadier K.A.U Kodithuwakku RSP USP psc IG, Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Football Committee and a large gathering of Officers and Other Ranks were present at the event.
